Thankful!

We are so thankful for everybody's care and concern over the last 24 hours. We are fine and our family is fine and as far as we know, our friends and coworkers are fine. I work a few blocks from the bridge and it has been surreal to view the damage. It is difficult to imagine how terrifying it must have been to witness or endure the bridge collapse or to wait to hear from loved ones driving home from work. I think we're all shocked that this happened so close to home and incredibly grateful for the near-misses some of our friends and family experienced.

I would like to take the opportunity to point out the importance of investing in our infrastructure instead of nickel and diming taxpayers and playing politics with our lives. While I do not believe that blame rests on any single politician (or political party, for that matter), I am reminded that our governor recently vetoed a spending bill that would have appropriated new gas tax revenue to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Governor Pawlenty, a Republican, ran and won on a "No new taxes" platform in both 2002 and 2006. MNDOT has been severely under-funded for years. I realize the problem isn't quite that simple. Still, the Minnesota Twins postponed a groundbreaking ceremony today for a stadium - for which the taxpayers of Minneapolis will reportedly be paying over $300 million. I'm not sure if Minnesotans haven't been paying attention or just have really screwed up priorities?

Anyhow, this is a happy Suki Sumo blog, so I will leave you all with pictures of SukiDuki's latest discovery: the mirror!

Who is that other puggy? WOOF!
Eyeing up my new opponent:
Who is that, mommy?
Yo, let's PLAY!

suki sumo, Im glad you, your mommy, and your mommy's friends and family are all safe! I saw it yesterday on tv on the news :( Then they said something like that can happen here with the bay bridge?? I dunno, but I hate mirrors! I get a little scared looking at my self, and when I do, I stare and then I run away. Isnt it weird?

I look in the mirror, but i never do anything with that other pug, i just watch her.
mom says that we have to go to the grocery store now, and buy some "kudos" if they still carry them...she says that she hasnt thought about them in years but suddenly remembered them when you posted your last comment on our blog. so anyways, glad that you are all safe!

SukiS. So glad that you and your loved ones are ok! Scary stuff. My ma ape e-mailed/called all her friends there to check on 'em. It seems like everyone drives that bridge! I think every state has similar problems which doesn't bode well for the future. Cutting taxes is always popular, investing in infrastructure maintenance is not a catchy election slogan.

I sometimes check myself out in the mirror but that dude is not as fun as the dog in YOUR mirror--he never wants to play.

Hi Suki,

So happy to hear that you guys are safe. It must have been so scary for all the humans near you. A smaller bridge collapsed near us a while ago, but no one was hurt too badly (thank dog), and Mommy and Daddy were talking about those infrastructure things and politicians too...

Love Clover xo

I have a twin that lives in my house TOO! He only comes out sometime, though. Usually when I'm in the closet or the bathroom. He seems to like those places....

So glad you and your family/friends are okay!

Oh, Suki Sumo & Mommy, I'm so glad you were not affected by this terrible tragedy. We've been very worried about everyone involved in this.

I used to love to look in the mirror, but I think I'm over it, now.

Oh, and my Mom says she agrees with your Mom on the taxes thing. Taxes are necessary, but they should be put to good use, like fixing roads and (obviously) repairing bridges first before building new stadiums and such. Boo to those politicians who didn't take care of this problem.

Puggy kisses
Suki

Hey Suki S, I'm glad your family is okay. It is really sad and not to mention shocking news indeed. I like the way you do a playbow and try to play with erm..yourself?

Suki Sumo,

If you gave me your "c'mon, let's play" vogue, I'd totally be wrasslin' with you! Where does your twin go when you leave the room?

Goober love,
Stanley
